William Bruce Lambourn, know n all of his life as Bruce, was born to Clarence and Millie (Lemke) Lambourn one mile west of Bowman. When he was 2 years old the family moved to the ranch eight miles west of Amidon. He attended Reager and Sand Creek elementary schools. Bruce started high school in Bowman and he spent his junior year at Fargo Central High School, as Clarence had taken a job in Fargo . They moved back to the ranch the next year and Bruce graduated from Bowman County High School in 1943.
The two years following graduation Bruce worked on the farm while courting Mary Lars e n, "T h e woman he wanted to marry." He would make the long 26 mile tr ek into Bowman usually on horseback to plead his case. Mary graduated in 1945 , and on Sept. 23 rd of that year , the two were married at the ranch where they lived for the next 6 3 years . They raised three children , Donald, known as Butch, in 1947; Tom in 1952 ; and Linda in 1961 . In 1962 , Bruce and Mary purchased the ranch from Clarence and Millie.
Bruce loved and was s o proud of the ranch, he raised crops and hay, but his real passion was the horses and cattle and his favorite dog at the time . Bruce and Butch ran cattle together on the Wilmar Aus place for several years and he enjoyed many hours with Butch and his family haying and working cattle. Bruce and Mary sold the ranch to Tom and Julie in 2008 after Mary became ill, but he still continued to help Tom with haying and checking cattle for several years. He was very proud that the ranch stayed in the Lambourn family.
B ruce was a devoted and romantic husband. He brought Mary crocus flowers every spring and never missed a day visiting and caring for her when she became ill. Bruce always made sure Mary got to coffee with her friends, hair appointments and wherever she wanted to go. He taught his children how to be compass ionate, loving and hard working. W e love him and thank him for this.
In 1991 , they bought a house in Bowman, which they enjoyed , even though they continued to live and work on the ranch . After Mary became ill, Bruc e spent many hours on the road vi siting Mary daily at the hospital s or long term care cent er where he enjoyed helping and entertaining everyone.
Bruce was a member of the Lebanon Lut heran Church, the Amidon Senior Center and was on the S lope C ounty ASCS C ounty C ommittee . He was active in the Slope County fairs , 4-H and his children's activities. Bruce was proud of his time in 4-H and making it to 4-H Congress in Chicago . He was also proud that Butch and g randdaughter Wendy also attended. Bruce worked for the Slope County ASCS , measuring updates for maps , field checks and measuring & checking bins in Slope County. He always enjoyed the job because i t gave him a chance to see other parts of the county. Bruce loved the spring time, when the cows were calving and everything was new and growing. One of his favorite things was the neighborhood brandings, he always looked forward to being with family, neighbors and friends. Bruce kept busy haying, playing cards and visiting with kids and grandkids. W e were happy he found companionship with Evelyn McKitrick and they spent time enjoying each other' s company and traveling to see family.
As Bruce's health started declining, he moved from his house into the Sunny Apartments. From there he moved to the Southwest Health Care LTC. We would like to thank all of the wonderful people at LTC for the excellent and compassionate care given to our Dad for the last three years.
