Beverly "Bev"
J. Buckmier
Jun 3, 1939 — Feb 4, 2025
Bowman
Beverly "Bev" J. Buckmier passed away on February 4, 2025 at the Country House in Dickinson, ND.
Funeral Services for Bev will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 10:00 am at the Bowman Lutheran Church. Pastor Galen Strand will officiate with burial to follow in the Bowman Cemetery. Visitation for Bev will be on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 12-9 at the Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Home Chapel in Bowman.
Bev was born June 3 rd , 1939, to Fred and Kathryn "Katie" (Zupanik) Hansen in Baker, MT. In
1948, the family moved to the ranch in Slope County north of Rhame. Bev and her siblings Barb
and Gale attended the Mound School, and she graduated from Rhame High School in 1957.
After high school, Bev attended Holy Rosary Nursing School in Miles City, MT to become a
registered nurse.
Bev met her husband Roy at a Friday night dance at the Flagstone in Bowman. They married
April 14, 1962, at the First Lutheran Church in Rhame and that's when Bev moved south to
Junction City, Kansas with Roy while he was stationed there in the Army. They returned to North
Dakota a year later and settled on the place south of Marmarth where they raised their
daughters Cheryl, Sheila and Leann before moving to Bowman in 1978.
All during that time, Bev dedicated herself to her family and the nursing profession. After Bev
and Roy returned to North Dakota, she began working at St. Luke's Tri-State Hospital in
Bowman, where she got to help deliver the first baby at the hospital. She retired from the
hospital after 40 years and worked in home health until her illness prevented her from working
any more, though when she moved to Country House, it was not uncommon for her to attend
the morning nurses' meetings to keep the young nurses in line.
Bev and Roy enjoyed time in the country, spending a lot of time on the family ranch and
numerous nights camping and enjoying the outdoors. She taught all the grandsons to drive on
the farm and required the lessons to be with a manual transmission. She enjoyed the annual
motorcycle rally in Marmarth, an event that was Bev's idea and one built out of her love for
bringing people together and building communities of all kinds. She loved attending rodeos and
had a passion for golfing. She loved animals and seemed to always have horses, chickens and
family dogs. She was a member of Bowman Lutheran Church where she participated in the
church choir and was a member of the Southwest Auxiliary.
Bev spent the last six years of her life as a resident of Country House in Dickinson where in the
early years she kept very busy. If the bus was leaving, so was Bev and it became an almost
daily occurrence to see her on their social media site enjoying any of the events going on
around Dickinson. The family is grateful to the staff at Country House for making the final years
of her life as eventful as they could.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Katie and in-laws Jack and Mildred, her
sister Barbara and brothers Terry and Gale and her niece Kim Suko.
Bev is survived by her husband of 62 years Roy of Bowman, her daughters Cheryl (JD)
DeMorrett of Rhame, Sheila (Mitch) Leone of Rapid City, SD and Leann (Bob) White of
Bowman. She is survived by her grandsons Josh (Laiken) DeMorrett of Bismarck, Levi (Jade)
DeMorrett of Watford City, Ryan (Amber) DeMorrett of Bowman, Jeremy (Katie) Leone of Rapid
City, SD and Travis Leone of Watford City along with great-grandchildren Brayden, Chloe,
Tynlee, Greyson, Jennings, Brax, Rhett and Beau. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law
Marjean (Jim) Schulz of New England, nephew Jason (Patti) King of Sidney, MT, Jamie
(Trenlin) Propp of Sidney, MT and Heidi Rue of Bismarck.
