Betty was born in Miller, SD on June 19, 1934 to George and Bessie (Kemp) Brown. She joined a brother and 2 sisters.

She moved to Marmarth,ND with her family in 1938 and attended school there; graduating in 1952.

Mom lost both of her parents at a young age. Her mom passed away in May of 1948 and so Mom lived with her sister, Valda, and her husband, Ronnie Richmond until she graduated.

After graduation she went to Spokane, Washington to telegraph school. She then went to work for Western Union in Spokane.

Mom came back to North Dakota in Feb. of 1954 to take care of her sister, Viola. She lived with Viola and her husband, Donald Lowe until she married Robert McGee on Nov.1, 1955. They had three children: Rhonda, John, and Patrick. She became a rancher's wife and helped with many jobs on the ranch. She helped with the haying, lambing, calving, hauling grain, feeding, and most anything on the ranch. After Dad passed away in August of 1997, she still continued to help on the ranch; carrying buckets of feed like it was nothing, feeding bum lambs, and still wanting to be part of the lambing process. And you better not tell her that she shouldn't be doing that.

In 1990, Mom became a Grandma for the first time. Three more followed. She loved spending time with them and going to all of their events to cheer them on or support whatever they were doing. She started her tradition of making red cake for them for their birthdays and continued until she could no longer bake, Her famous red cake was known by many of the kids friends. She was also known for her homemade carmels and always had cookies in the freezer.

Mom was diagnosed with dementia in 2020. She stayed with Rhonda and her husband, Denis, until Feb.2023. She then entered the Fallon Medical Complex Long-Term Care Unit in Baker, MT. The staff there were so good with her. Mom put many miles on in the hallways; keeping the nurses busy looking for her.

Mom had a very strong faith in God. She was a loving and caring woman that took care of others before herself.

She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. She served on the church council and was a member of the Bethany WELCA where she served many years as the secretary/treasurer. She belonged to the Rancherettes Homemakers, Stockman Association, Farm Bureau, and ND Cattlewomen.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, her parents, her brother and his wife, her sisters and their husbands, one nephew, one niece, her son-in-law, Denis; 3 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law.

She will be greatly missed by daughter, Rhonda, son, John (Bonnie), son, Pat; grandchildren, Nathan (Lindsay), Mattie (Brian), Travis, and Shelbi (Drew); three great-grandchildren, Easton, Louie, and Declan. Also one brother-in-law, Ivan Jr. (Theresa), nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Rest in Peace, Mom! We love you!
