Arlette Vatne was born on April 4, 1920 to Aanen and Ingeborg (Rierson) Vatne, the youngest of four children. She grew up on the family farm south of Rhame and attended Golden Valley School through the 8th grade. Arlette worked as a waitress a Joe's Lunch (Gene Langlee's) in Bowman in her younger years. She later met Albert Jeffers; they were married January 23, ,1951 in Bucyrus, ND and shared nearly 60 years together. They had their only child, Jerry, on May 28, 1952. They lived and made their life on the family farm until 1976 when Jerry took over. They remained on the farm until 2008 when they moved to Pleasant Manor and in January of 2010 they moved to the long-term care center in Bowman.
Arlette and Albert spent much of their time with his sister and brother-in-law and took many trips, traveling to several locations from Nashville to Washington. Arlette was involved in many activities including the Rancherettes Homemaker Club, Bethany Circle, and Bethany Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening, tending her flowers, and raising her chickens. She sold the eggs from her chickens all around the area. She took pride in her cooking, and loved to have hungry mouths to feed. She was well known for her tasty donuts.
Arlette dearly loved her family and enjoyed every moment she had with them. She was always by Albert's side, and Jerry was her pride and joy. She loved having her grandsons next door and always kept her gum drawer full for when they stopped by. Later, she adored her great-grandkids, who always brought smiles to her face. She was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
