Funeral Services for Alyce Larkin will be held on Friday, June 26, 2026 at 11:00am and the Bowman Assembly of God Church. Pastor Ed Kvaale will officiate with burial to follow in the Tuttle Cemetery, rural Rhame, ND.
Alyce Marguerite Larkin was born to Erwin Holzkamm and Erna (Luckow) Holzkamm on February 18, 1941, on her grandparents’ farm in rural Rainy Butte Township. She was the sixth of seven siblings.
Alyce attended primary school in Bucyrus and graduated from Hettinger High School in 1959.
During and after high school, she worked various jobs, but the Clara Lincoln Diner in Bowman was the place where she met her future husband, Gerald, whom she would love forever. They were united in marriage on May 29, 1960.
Alyce and Gerald made their home at the Larkin Ranch, which they purchased from Harry and Lillie Larkin. Over the next six years, they welcomed four children: Jesse David, Emily Suzan, Shawn Bradley, and Timothy Heath. Though their hearts were broken by the loss of Jesse David at just 18 months old, his memory remained with them throughout their lives.
A new house was built in 1969, giving Alyce room for her many talents. She enjoyed painting, sewing, canning, and tending a large garden. She worked as hard off the ranch as she did at home, holding jobs in both Bowman and Rhame. For a few years she & Gerald owned and operated the Feed Bunk Café in Rhame. She also spent many years cooking at the world famous Hunter’s Table and Tavern in Rhame.
After retirement they enjoyed traveling and seeking out family history. One of their proudest discoveries was finding Gerald’s great-grandparents’ monument in Wisconsin. They also enjoyed a dream vacation to Alaska, traveling by boats, trains, and automobiles. After Gerald passed away, Alyce traveled to various parts of the world, including Germany to explore her family roots. She was also blessed to attend the Olympic Games in Calgary, venture to Canada to see the polar bears, and even enjoyed the Rose Bowl parade with her niece, creating memories she treasured for years.
Family was Alyce’s pride and joy. Her home was always a gathering place for holidays, family visits, and celebrations. She was known for her exceptional baking and cooking, which her children and grandchildren always looked forward to. Alyce took special care to make birthday cakes, keeping track of everyone’s favorite flavors and decorations, and her Christmas treats became a cherished family tradition.
Alyce was known in the community for her caring and generous spirit. She supported many local charities and causes, including The School of Promise, area church projects and regional 4-H members. Nationally, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital held a special place in her heart and was one of the causes she and Gerald cared deeply about.
Alyce spent over 20 years without the love of her life after Gerald’s passing in 2005, missing him every day. Yet she continued to live life fully, keeping herself active through travel, family, and friendships. She especially enjoyed traveling to Puerto Rico where some of her grandchildren lived, and treasured the time she spent visiting them. She spent the last year of her life in Florida with Timothy and his family, enjoying precious time together and creating lasting memories.
Alyce is survived by one sibling, Karen Nemitz; her children, Emily (Ron) Olsen, Shawn Larkin, and Timothy (Lely) Larkin; 10 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends whose lives were enriched by her love, generosity, and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Gerald; her son, Jesse David; her parents, Erwin and Erna Holzkamm; her siblings Hilda, Fred, Agnes, Erna, and Ella; and her grandchildren Dustin and Shyann.
Alyce will be remembered for her strong work ethic, adventurous spirit, generous heart, and deep devotion to her family. She lived fully, loved deeply, and was truly the glue that held her family together through good times and bad. She was a truly remarkable woman.
