Allan James Kromarek was born on January 25, 1936 in Reeder, ND to Peter Paul and Eloise (Simonson) Kromarek.
He attended Hammond School in Goldfield Township south of Scranton, ND and later went to Scranton Public School in Scranton, ND.
After leaving school, he worked on multiple farms in the Bowman and Scranton areas. Allan would always point out the steel buildings he helped build around the area, and he loved to tell stories about each job.
Allan joined the US Army on February 7, 1957 and said he never regretted a moment of it. While in the service, he made a lot of friends that he talked about to the end. He was also a member of the Army Sharp Shooter Team and traveled throughout Europe with it.
After being discharged from the Army on January 29, 1959, Allan came home to join his dad on the family farm, where he resided until being admitted to the Western Horizon Care Center in Hettinger, ND in 2016. Farming was one of Allan's greatest loves. You could often find him out checking his fields, sometimes two or three times a day. He always preferred the old ways and didn't like change but he loved the land and was always ready to start seeding in the spring.
Hunting, fishing, and trapping were also always a big part of Allan's life. One story he also loved to tell of his early experiences was of crawling under an old abandoned house while hunting skunks on the way to the movie theater in Bowman. He always said that his Mom sank clear down in the seat when someone seated close by said, "Someone must have hit a skunk on the way to town". He often talked about the first deer he shot (which happened to be a big buck) in the Badlands when he was sixteen and he always enjoyed seeing the head mount of this deer at the Marina. He also enjoyed telling stories about the coyote hounds his family owned in his youth as well as his many fox hunting adventures in the years that followed. Allan also enjoyed running trap lines for many years over an area ranging from SD to the south and Dickinson to the north, and from Hettinger to the east and Marmarth to the west.
He really loved his hopped up cars and outrunning the cops in his younger years. He told of a group of stunt drivers called the Hell Drivers coming to Bowman to see if they could talk him into joining them. He always said that the sheriff in Bowman gave them his name just to try to get him out of town.
On July 7th, 1967, he married his lifelong love and helpmate, as he often called her, Donna Hansen. To this union, came a daughter, Debbie, and two sons, Scott and Jason. His children, and later his grandchildren were the joys of his life. He always thought each of them were special and they could do no wrong in his eyes. He would scold them, but he would feel bad afterward because they didn't mean to do anything wrong.
Allan enjoyed his time spent with his many teammates while a member of the Bowman Bowling League and was also proud to be a member of the Scranton School Board from 1981 to 1997.
He is survived by his wife Donna, his brother Ralph, daughter Debbie (James) Croker, sons Scott (Deni) Kromarek and Jason (Julie) Kromarek; his grandchildren, Mandy (Mike) Morgan, Daniel (Meagan) Croker, Khristina Croker, Laura Croker, Tanner Kromarek, James Blackmore, Nic Blackmore, and Justine (Cody) Garber, Jaric and Devin Kromarek (who spent most of their lives on the farm and were Grandpa's helpers), Adia Rask, and Damian Cowley; his great-grandchildren Wyatt Morgan, Stormy Morgan, Weston Croker, Hannah Thevis, Hailee Thevis, River Howze, Ryder Howze, Kennedy Kromarek, Jonathon Blackmore and Jethro Blackmore. He was preceeded in death by his parents and a sister, Denise.
Krebsbach and Kulseth Funeral Services are in charge of the arrangements.
