Albert Ralph Jeffers died peacefully Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at Southwest Long Term Care. Albert was born February 7, 1918 to Harry and Jenny (Olmstad) Jeffers at the family farm. He was the youngest of seven children and attended Dale Elementary School through the 8th grade. Upon the completion of school, he returned to the family farm south of Rhame.
He later met Arlette Vatne; they were wed January 23, 1951 in Bucyrus and nearly shared 60 years together. They had their only child, Jerry, on May 28, 1952. They continued to run the family farm until 1976 when Jerry took over. They remained on the farm until 2008 when they moved to Pleasant Manor and in January of 2010 they moved to long-term care in Bowman.
During his younger years, he played guitar in the Dakota Playboys Band. The band consisted of Donald Egeland, Johnnie Oakland, Vernon Fossum, and Robert Clendenen. He was also a licensed pilot and had his own plane until 1952. He enjoyed deer hunting and took pride in bringing down the first mule deer seen in the area.
In his later years, he took up playing the violin again, as he had as a younger man, and won many prizes in different competitions. He was an avid Zane Grey reader (Paperback Westerns) and enjoyed time spent trapping. Having lived in the same yard as his grandsons, he was able to spend a great deal of time with them-something he also enjoyed a great deal.
Albert and Arlette spent much of their time with his sister and brother in-law and took many trips, traveling anywhere from Nashville to Washington. A mild and quiet man, Albert was always willing to share knowledge and teach others.
He was a special person that will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
